The Facebook Messenger channel connects your ChatSpark AI agent to your Facebook Page inbox. When someone messages your Page through Messenger, your agent replies automatically using your training data. All conversations are visible in your ChatSpark dashboard.
This channel works for businesses with an active Facebook presence and customers who prefer reaching out through social media.
You need both of the following before starting.
Your AI agent connects to a Facebook Page, not a personal profile. You must be an admin of the Page you want to connect. If you only have viewer or editor access, ask the Page owner to grant you admin access first.
The connection process uses a Meta OAuth popup. You will log in during this popup with your personal Facebook account, not a business email address. That personal account must be an admin of the Facebook Page you want to connect.
Trigger words let you set up a basic live agent handoff within Messenger conversations. Two fields are available after you select your Page.
| Field | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger Word | When a customer types this word, the agent pauses and indicates a human will take over | live agent |
| Trigger Word for Exit | When your team types this word, the conversation returns to the AI agent | exit |
Both fields are optional. You can add multiple trigger words using the add button in each field. If you do not use live agent handoff, leave these empty.
Your agent is now live on Messenger. Send a message to your Facebook Page to test it.
When a customer sends a message to your Facebook Page through Messenger, Meta forwards it to ChatSpark through the Facebook Graph API. ChatSpark processes the message through your agent and sends the response back. The customer sees the reply directly in their Messenger conversation with your Page.
ChatSpark handles webhook registration automatically. You do not need to set up any webhooks or configure anything in the Facebook Developer Portal.
Confirm you are logging in with your personal Facebook account, not a business email. Make sure that account has admin access to the Page you want to connect.
The personal Facebook account used to connect is not an admin of any Pages. Open Facebook and check your Page roles. Once your account has admin access, return to ChatSpark and click Connect with Facebook again.
Make sure your agent has training data and has been saved. Also confirm that the Page selected in the dropdown is the Page your customers are messaging. If you have multiple Pages, it is easy to select the wrong one.
Click Connect with Facebook again to reauthorize and choose a different Page from the dropdown. If multiple Pages are listed, make sure you pick the correct one before saving.
