Confluence

Turn your Confluence knowledge base into an instant-answer engine that employees and customers can query through chat.

Overview

Confluence is where teams document everything — processes, architecture decisions, product guides, HR policies. But searching Confluence is slow, and most employees default to pinging a colleague instead. That interrupts the colleague and still takes minutes to get an answer.

The Confluence integration lets your AI agent search across spaces, retrieve specific pages, and list available spaces. Employees ask a question in chat and get the answer (with a link to the source page) in seconds.

When to Enable This

  • Your organization stores runbooks, policies, or product documentation in Confluence
  • Employees repeatedly ask the same questions that are answered somewhere in Confluence
  • You want customer-facing agents to pull verified answers from internal documentation

Available Actions

ActionDescription
SearchFull-text search across all accessible Confluence content
Get PageRetrieve the content of a specific Confluence page
List SpacesShow all available Confluence spaces for navigation

Prerequisites

Before connecting Confluence, make sure you have:

  • An Atlassian Cloud Confluence instance
  • An Atlassian account with access to the spaces you want to query
  • An API token generated from your Atlassian account

Setup Instructions

Step 1: Generate an API Token

  1. Go to Atlassian API Tokens
  2. Click Create API token
  3. Name it “ChatSpark Integration”
  4. Copy the token immediately — it won't be shown again
Permissions
The API token inherits the permissions of your Atlassian account. The AI agent will only be able to access spaces and pages your account can read.

Step 2: Enable in ChatSpark

  1. In ChatSpark, go to AI Actions
  2. Find Confluence in the Library and click Enable
  3. Select the chatbot(s) that should have access
  4. Enter your Confluence Domain, Email, and API Token
  5. Click Save

Configuration Fields

FieldDescriptionExample
DomainYour Atlassian Cloud domainyourcompany.atlassian.net
EmailThe email address linked to your Atlassian accountyou@company.com
API TokenYour Atlassian API tokenATATT3xFfGF0...

Testing Your Integration

After setup, open your chatbot widget and try these realistic queries:

  1. Ask: “How do I request time off?”
  2. The AI should search Confluence and return the relevant policy page content

More test phrases:

  • “What's the deployment process for the staging environment?”
  • “Find the architecture overview for the payments service”
  • “Show me what spaces are available in our Confluence”

Troubleshooting

401 Unauthorized

Confluence uses basic auth with your email and API token. Verify both are correct and that the token hasn't been revoked in your Atlassian settings.

Search returns no results

Confluence search is scoped to your account's permissions. If you can't find a page, make sure your Atlassian account has read access to the relevant space.

Domain format

Enter just the domain (e.g., yourcompany.atlassian.net), not the full URL with https:// or a path suffix.
